Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer
Job Location: 2908 Marketplace Drive Suite 100, Fitchburg, WI 53719
Primary FunctionPerforms engineering work with a focus on transmission line design, including both civil and electrical practices. Requires knowledge of transmission systems from 34.5 kV to 500 kV and familiarity with basic line‑design principles. Successful candidates may be placed in titles ranging from Design Engineer II to Senior Project Engineer based on experience and field knowledge.
Responsibilities- Generate cost‑effective designs for high‑voltage electrical transmission lines.
- Represent the Engineering department and participate in inter‑department meetings.
- Attend customer meetings as needed to support Sales and Engineers.
- Monitor team progress and activities to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget, exceeding customer expectations.
- Perform transmission line engineering work independently.
- Balance innovation and standardization of work processes.
- Project or Senior Project Engineers will ensure that projects meet quality and schedule objectives.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by assignments.
- Other duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on design work related to transmission lines; 10 years for senior positions.
- Experience preparing cost‑effective designs in an EPC environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of transmission engineering—including routing, conductor selection, structure determination, plan and profile development, material take‑offs, etc.
- Knowledge of substation structures, foundations, and site development issues.
- Proficiency with engineering application software, notably PLS‑CADD.
- Understanding of engineering standards (NESC, IEEE, ASCE, ACI, ANSI) applicable to transmission design.
- Extensive knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary for a complete project.
- Must be a licensed professional engineer or be able to obtain a license within one year of hire.
- Position requires minimal physical effort.
- Must endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
- Primarily works indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to all weather conditions and noise.
- Must be willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings (10 %).
- Extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
