Summary:We are seeking a Process Engineer who will use their skills with engineering principles, team facilitation and statistical process control to measure and improve key processes integral to the manufacturing of printed and unprinted laminated and coated packaging materials for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. They will be a leader and a listener with the goal of improving every aspect of the plant, specifically looking to reduce manufacturing costs, improve efficiencies and reduce process variability.
EssentialJob Duties:
- Work directly with machine operators to identify needs and develop solutions. Coordinate with maintenance on equipment modifications and preventative maintenance items to ensure reliability.
- Provide key operational reports to the site leadership team.
- Become the plant liaison for trials.
- Organize cross functional teams to implement lean manufacturing principles.
- Develop thorough knowledge of all manufacturing processes and equipment. Assess equipment performance and develop process specifications using statistical analysis.
- Evaluate impacts of potential material changes.
- Support process monitoring and vision systems (Dr. Schenk).
- Review and modify the process workflow.
- Develop strategies for process improvement and weigh their impacts.
- Analyze data and manage every aspect of efficiency, new/modified equipment, and customer satisfaction projects.
- Identify projects and prepare proposals or reports.
- Determine time frames, funding, procedures, staffing requirements, training, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.
- Constantly assess activities to ensure no unsafe results will occur.
- Participate on the plant-wide safety team.
- Assist in safety and housekeeping audits and surveys to ensure compliance with safety rules and guidelines.
- Develop / improve product reliability with performance consistency.
- Participate in customer complaint system to avoid future occurrences and complaints.
- Actively participate in and/or drive root cause analysis.
- Identify and correct any quality issues that may arise in the department or plant.
- Assist with customer quality audits as needed.
- Identify and address opportunities to reduce costs, improve product/process, and/or improve overall operations.
- Participate and lead teams to eliminate problems and streamline operations.
- Participate and lead training and exercises designed to expand the potential for continuous improvement.
Job Duties:
- Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Experience:
- 5+ years in a process engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, packaging engineering, industrial engineering or other related industrial technology
- Demonstrates capability to lead teams to process improvements that yield bottom line results.
- Experience in the implementation of statistical process control and/or lean manufacturing principles within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Engineering/manufacturing procedure and work instruction writing.
- Capable of learning and complying with FDA/GMP regulations and ISO/TS Audits.
- Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, Zero Defect, Kaizen, Kan Ban, Single Minute Exchange Die [SMED] background.
- Articulate in English, both verbal and written
