Safety Specialist Job Description
The Safety Specialist is responsible for educating field personnel on correct safety procedures and ensuring that safety policies are meticulously followed. Reporting directly to the Corporate Safety Director, the role requires significant travel to various project sites in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois to conduct new hire trainings and site visits.
Responsibilities- Educate field personnel on correct safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Conduct site safety audits and prescribe corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents and generate proper reports.
- Create, conduct, and document Tool Box Talks.
- Stop work to address serious safety deficiencies and file necessary documentation.
- Provide leadership focused on safe work practices and pre-task planning.
- Assist in planning and implementing all project safety needs.
- Conduct on-site inspections to control hazardous conditions or unsafe activities.
- Reward and recognize field personnel for outstanding safety initiatives.
- Participate in daily morning huddles and daily end-of-shift meetings.
- Educate foremen on proper daily work plans and hold them accountable.
- Lead or assist in weekly safety meetings.
- Continue education on safety through seminars and higher education.
- Network and stay current on safety topics relevant to the construction industry.
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety or equivalent experience with a safety certification (GSP, CSP, ASP, BCSP, OHST, CHST).
- 1+ years of construction safety experience.
- Ability to travel and conduct site visits.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in construction, solar, and safety.
- Familiarity with safety systems and equipment.
- Willingness to work in a job trailer environment.
The position is based on a 50-hour work week, including some Saturday work. The role is hourly, with overtime compensation. Employees will be reimbursed for mileage and receive a GSA per diem rate when traveling more than 1.5 hours from the base office. The company is an electrical contractor with a workforce of 500 union employees and 100 non-union office staff.
The safety culture emphasizes mentorship and support, fostering a positive work atmosphere. The role involves working on diverse projects, including data centers, solar farms, and industrial plants.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.
Pay and Benefits- The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $45.00/hr.
