Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute comprehensive geotechnical investigations for trenchless projects. This includes field work oversight, soil and rock logging, laboratory coordination, data analysis, and report production.
  • Generate geotechnical engineering reports and serve as a local resource to HDR’s Area of Operations, representing Trenchless Services at client meetings.
  • Manage data using Open Ground and/or gINT, creating deliverables such as boring logs and cross sections.
  • Perform data management and quality control of geological data.
  • Assist in geotechnical analyses of subsurface conditions, calculating parameters for HFIAs and providing mitigation recommendations.
  • Incorporate geological and geotechnical data into design and construction decisions, including creation of cross sections.
  • Advance software capabilities in gINT, Open Ground, ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other relevant tools.
  • Support other business groups across HDR, monitoring construction activities and interfacing with contractors.
  • Travel as necessary for field work, including reconnaissance, testing, and data presentation.
  • Lead and manage workload for geotechnical professionals, mentor staff, and perform performance reviews.
  • Plan, forecast resources, estimate costs, schedule, and manage risks for geological and geotechnical initiatives.

This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth. The selected individual will be a dedicated resource to the Trenchless Service Line, supporting geological and geotechnical initiatives across multiple business units.

A candidate for this position must be a leader, self‑motivated, accountable, and reliable. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for integration into multidisciplinary teams and client interfacing. Travel, extensive hours, and outdoor work are expected.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Open Ground software.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate successfully in remote environments.
  • Experience leading and managing direct reports and subconsultants.
  • Four‑year degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • Team orientation with a strong desire to drive geotechnical initiatives within HDR’s Trenchless Services and larger multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, gINT, ArcGIS, and Auto Desk.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Travel required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Professional Geologist (PG) credentials.
  • Knowledge of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and subsurface material classification.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.
