Substation Design Engineer

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consulting firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials across the U.S. with experience in system voltages from 4.16 kV to 765 kV. ECI has an immediate opening for a Substation Design Engineer in Madison, WI.

• Conceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization.
• Develop and deliver physical, electrical, civil and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications.
• Coordinate and quality‑control design activities, oversee designers, drafters and support staff under the mentorship of a Project Engineer.
• Collaborate with ECI’s subject‑matter experts in Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection, Civil Engineering, SCADA Integration and Transmission & Distribution Engineering.

• Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (design‑engineering experience is a plus).
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong organization and planning; team‑player; commitment to quality and accuracy.
• Willingness to meet fast‑paced project schedules and progress toward PE licensure is encouraged.
• Fundamental knowledge of power‑engineering principals and applicable codes and standards.
• Subject to client‑mandated drug and background checks; occasional travel/driving required; must comply with ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements.
