Department Overview

CALS Study Abroad is one of three study abroad offices at UW-Madison that collectively offer more than 300 study abroad programs around the world. CALS Study Abroad works closely with International Academic Programs (IAP), the central study abroad office on campus, to offer programs specifically designed for CALS students' academic needs. CALS Study Abroad programs cover a variety of content areas such as biological sciences, global health and wellness, sustainable development, food systems, agriculture, health and wellness, and community and economic development.

CALS Study Abroad is housed within the CALS Office of Academic Affairs, located in 116 Agricultural Hall.

Anticipated Start Date

This position begins with a required paid three-day training orientation on August 19, 20, and 21, 2026 with regular shifts starting the week of August 24, 2026.

Schedule

Approximately 6-10 hours per week. A typical schedule includes three 2-hour in-person shifts between 9am and 4:30pm, which includes a 1-hour weekly team meeting (in-person or virtual). The remaining hours may take place in person or virtually throughout the week, depending on the nature of the event or project. Some evening or weekend work may be requested depending on availability.

Qualifications
  • Be in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences
  • Be a UW-Madison degree-seeking student
  • Have studied abroad by Fall 2026
  • Physically be on campus during both Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Be willing to participate in various outreach efforts including tabling at public events, delivering classroom presentations, and moderating panels
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for their own study abroad experience and be able to inspire interest in study abroad in others
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
  • Exercise attention to detail; the ability to proofread, edit copy, and update digital templates and calendars with accuracy
  • Display an entrepreneurial spirit, strong initiative, and creativity when approaching projects and tasks
  • Work well both as a team member and independently on assigned projects
  • Have the ability to work a minimum of six regularly scheduled hours on Monday-Friday and be willing to work additional hours (up to a maximum total of ten per week)
  • Be comfortable using software such as Outlook email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with digital media creation is helpful but not required
  • Position Summary /

    Job Duties
    • Arranging and delivering high-impact presentations in classrooms and at student orgs
    • Hosting informational tables at events throughout campus.
    • Providing support and information to prospective students
    • Leading weekly Marketing Intern Team meetings
    • Tracking, analyzing, and improving outreach work
    • Managing the CALS Study Abroad email
    • Pulling information from the study abroad database
    • Enhancing online website content and program webpages
    • Developing other projects with CALS Study Abroad staff, such as returned student panels, workshops, data management, or creating new resources
