Job Summary
The Professor of Practice in Artificial Intelligence role bridges AI research at UW‑Madison with practical applications for Wisconsin communities. This position translates AI concepts into accessible insights for local governments, small businesses, community organizations, and youth educators.
Responsibilities- AI Research Translation & Application (40%):
Translate AI research into practical applications for diverse stakeholders. - Extension Liaison & Education (30%):
Serve as an AI subject matter expert for educators, providing training and support. - Program Development & National Support (15%):
Develop AI training materials and curricula for Extension educators nationally. - Funding Acquisition (10%):
Identify and pursue funding opportunities, manage grant budgets, and ensure compliance. - Professional Development & Service (5%):
Maintain knowledge of AI advancements and participate in relevant meetings.
Flexible within Wisconsin.
Remote WorkPossibility of working up to 2 days remote per Extension's Remote Work Policy.
Travel ExpectationsValid driver's license and independent transportation required for in‑state travel.
CompensationMinimum annual starting salary of $95,000, negotiable based on experience.
Required Qualifications- Demonstrated understanding of core AI concepts and methodologies.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical information for non‑technical audiences.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
- External funding through grants.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel.
- Experience in Extension, outreach, or informal education programs.
- Familiarity with the operations of local governments, small businesses, or youth education programs.
- Experience in curriculum development and delivering adult education programs.
- Record of successful grant writing and management.
Required: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science, Education, Public Administration, or a closely related field with an AI emphasis.
Preferred: Ph.D. in a relevant field.
