Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor – Ethel and O.N. Allen Chair of Phytobacteriology
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Plant Pathology is seeking highly motivated and talented candidates for the Ethel and O.N. Allen Chair of Phytobacteriology at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Applicants should have an established, successful research program investigating the biology, ecology, and/or evolution of plant-associated bacteria, including pathogenic, commensal, and beneficial interactions. We welcome research foci at any biological scale and encourage integrative solutions to outstanding, timely questions in phytobacteriology.
In addition to research, the faculty member will provide critical instruction, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels in biology, plant pathology, and plant-microbe interactions, and will mentor students to achieve academic success. This position supports the department, college, and campus missions and is part of UW-Madison’s Excellence in Mentoring Initiative.
Key Job Responsibilities- Expand an ongoing, independent, externally funded research program and secure extramural funding.
- Teach students at graduate and undergraduate levels in accordance with departmental teaching loads.
- Contribute to graduate student instruction and mentoring.
- Mentor students and promote their development in a collaborative environment.
- Collaborate in courses led by other faculty.
- Participate in service functions of the department, college, and campus communities.
Department of Plant Pathology
CompensationNegotiable – 9 months / ongoing
Required Qualifications- Strong foundational knowledge of phytobacteriology and related research experience.
- A successful record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience training and mentoring graduate students.
- Experience teaching and developing curriculum materials.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding.
- Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders.
PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, Ecology, Plant Pathology, Plant Sciences, or a related discipline.
