About the Role

Job Title: Utility Construction Estimator

Location: Remote

Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for construction projects across all business lines, including electric distribution, transmission, gas distribution, vegetation management, traffic control, civil construction, and right‑of‑way services. Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements. Utilize estimating software and tools to develop detailed cost estimates and proposals.
  • Review bid documents and contract requirements to ensure compliance with client specifications and company standards. Collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to solicit competitive bids and pricing for project components. Prepare and submit comprehensive bid packages in accordance with project deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize project costs without compromising quality or performance. Collaborate with project teams to implement value engineering solutions and cost‑saving strategies.
  • Evaluate project risks and uncertainties to develop contingency plans and pricing adjustments as needed. Identify potential cost impacts and mitigations to ensure project profitability.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations to discuss project estimates, proposals, and value engineering options. Address client inquiries and concerns regarding project costs and pricing.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of estimating activities, including cost estimates, bid documents, and correspondence. Assist in the preparation of project budgets and financial reports as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a construction related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry, preferably in power and pipeline utility construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs across various scopes of work.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as MS Excel, Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to construction estimating.
  • Certification in estimating (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) is a plus.
