Paddling and fishing camp counselor positions available.

Camp Wingra is looking for experienced paddlers and/or anglers to join us for an unforgettable summer on the lakes in Madison.

We’re looking for dependable, self-motivated individuals who work well as part of a team and understand the importance of keeping kids engaged, supported, and safe. Camp Wingra is a community staple, and our counselors take pride in being positive role models while delivering a fun, high-energy camp experience every day.

We are hiring for our Summer 2026 Season:

  • Dates:
    June 1st – August 21, 2025
  • Required availability:
    Entire season, with one scheduled week off (July 4-12)
  • Hours:

    Monday–Friday, approximately 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Pay:
    Weekly salary starting at $550, depending on experience
  • Perks:
    Free access to over 300 watercraft at Wingra, Brittingham, and Marshall Boats during off-hours.

Location

Camp Wingra operates out of two beautiful waterfront locations:

  • Wingra Boats: 824 Knickerbocker Street (off Monroe Street)
  • Marshall Boats: 2101 Allen Blvd (off University Ave.) Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
    • Have fun — and BE fun!
    • Plan and lead engaging weekly activities
    • Facilitate icebreakers and team-building games
    • Teach basic paddling, fishing, and water safety skills
    • Foster an inclusive, supportive camp environment
    • Work cooperatively with fellow counselors
    • Complete administrative tasks such as communicating with parents, writing daily recaps, and completing required forms
    Qualifications:
    • Strong swimming skills
    • Experience paddling canoes and/or kayaks
    • Ability to lift and portage canoes and kayaks
    • High energy, enthusiasm, and a love for being outdoors
    • Organized, responsible, and enjoy working with children
    • Boater Safety Certification required by the start of camp (short online course)
    • Previous camp experience is a plus, but not required — training is provided
