The River is seeking a reliable, organized, customer-service minded Administrative Assistant to join our team. Responsibilities will include supporting the organization’s operations, including greeting visitors, helping direct people onsite, responding to general phone and email inquiries, assisting with administrative tasks and providing support to the Executive Director and other staff members as required. This position is Monday-Friday (40 hours per week) with some weekend and after hours as needed.
In the full‑time Administrative Assistant role, you will contribute to our mission of providing food, resources, and faith to build a stronger community by:
- Serving as the first point of contact for The River Food Pantry for individuals in person, via phone, or email.
- Answering and handling incoming phone calls for The River in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answering general phone inquiries as appropriate and/or directing callers to the appropriate staff as necessary.
- Welcoming individuals entering the building in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner. Directing them to where they need to go and/or alert staff when someone has arrived to meet with them.
- Responding to general organizational emails and forwarding to appropriate staff as needed.
- Assisting with preparing materials for meetings or tours, and at times attend meetings to take notes.
- Serving as the point of contact for volunteers through the Diversion Program.
- Assisting with new volunteer orientation by providing tours, assisting with volunteer scheduling and reporting.
- Assisting with welcoming and placing volunteers.
- Providing on‑site administrative team support to the Executive Director and other staff members as directed.
- Attending community events to serve as an ambassador and representative of The River.
- Assisting in Operations Department activities as needed to provide support for client and community services.
- Performing other duties as assigned based on organization and client need.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 1+ years in a customer service role is required.
- Previous experience in handling a phone system is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Multilingual is strongly preferred.
- Commitment and passion for The River’s mission, vision and goals.
- Friendly, courteous, helpful and empathetic service for others.
- Initiative to continue learning and be solutions focused.
- Ability to work with a broad group of people.
- Ability to communicate information clearly and understandably through interactions with staff, volunteers, and clients.

- Ability to build good working relationships and foster feelings of mutual respect with staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and respectful in stressful, and on occasion volatile, situations.
- Ability to accept responsibility for actions, decisions, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- A background check is required.
