Staff Accountant
Our client is an organization in the Madison area looking for a Staff Accountant
. This company is looking for someone with 2+ years of accounting experience with general accounting functions, organized and highly detailed.
The salary range for this job is $65-75k/year.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries
- Generate and distribute customer invoices
- Apply cash receipts and reconcile customer accounts
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances
- Resolve billing issues and customer payment discrepancies
- Assist with credit memos and adjustments as needed
- Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations)
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Support financial statement preparation and variance analysis
- Maintain accurate general ledger records in accordance with company policies
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation
- Support tax filings, including sales/use tax and other compliance requirements
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal controls
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
- Assist with special projects as assigned
The Staff Accountant will possess the following:
Experience required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred but not required.
- 3–5 years of experience in an accounting-focused role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly across teams.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive mindset with a strong ability to problem-solve independently and collaboratively.
- Flexible and adaptable to change, with a commitment to continuous improvement and team development.
