Aboutthe Position
This is a non-state service (NS-14) Driver’s Education Auditor position within the Driver Services Bureau located in CANTON, MS, in MADISON COUNTY. This incumbent will be responsible for evaluating and ensuring compliance of driver education programs with Mississippi statutory and regulatory requirements. This position conducts audits and assessments of both public and private driver education providers, including high school programs and statewide training initiatives, to promote safety, program integrity, and adherence to established standards.
This role supports the implementation of mandatory driver education policies established under Mississippi law and assists in the oversight of driver education curriculum and training quality.
- Perform compliance audits of driver education programs offered through school districts, private vendors, and state-administered programs to verify conformity with Mississippi Code and administrative regulations governing driver education and training.
- Review instructional records, attendance logs, student driver files, behind-the-wheel training documentation, and certificates of completion for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate whether driver education programs meet state-approved instructional requirements (e.g., classroom and behind-the-wheel hours, curriculum content, including distracted driving and safety components).
- Conduct on-site inspections and field reviews of driver education classes, facilities, and training operations to assess quality and compliance.
- Identify noncompliance issues and prepare detailed audit reports outlining findings, recommendations, corrective actions, and follow-up requirements.
- Work with driver education providers to ensure corrective action plans are implemented in response to audit findings.
- Assist with the investigation of complaints or irregularities involving driver education programs or instructors.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to schools, instructors, and program administrators about Mississippi driver education rules, including new provisions under the forthcoming statewide program requirements.
- Collaborate with internal divisions (e.g., legal, enforcement, policy staff), the Mississippi State Board of Education, and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to support oversight of driver education standards and rule making.
- Contribute to the development and revision of agency policies, training standards, and operational procedures for the driver education audit program.
- Prepare materials for administrative hearings or enforcement actions, as needed.
