2. THIS IS A FULLY QUALIFIED LINE MECHANIC POSITION.

The salary range for this position starts at $62.83 and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Position Description

The position will require working both indoors and outdoors, and at times under adverse weather conditions. It is a shift position with various work schedules. The selected candidate must meet physical requirements as required by medical placement examination(s); an agility assessment may be required. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, clearing faulty and unsafe conditions, maintaining or restoring electrical service, by temporary or permanent means.

  • Clear faulty and unsafe conditions, including maintaining or restoring electrical service by temporary or permanent means.
  • Operate primary and secondary fault locating equipment on URD systems to isolate the faulted equipment and restore service.
  • Operate switching and control devices on overhead and underground systems.
  • Connect, disconnect, and operate portable transformers, generators, and temporary primary jumpers under emergency or urgent conditions.
  • Replace transformers with assistance of other qualified employees.
  • Replace damaged or faulty equipment during the initial response.
  • Perform streetlight repair work including replacing defective bulbs, photocells, and heads along with new installations.
  • Install and remove minimal cover-up as needed.
  • Perform secondary overhead and URD service connections for new customer connections.
  • Perform overhead distribution system line patrols.
  • Perform URD and overhead equipment inspections.
  • Make current and voltage measurements as required.
  • Determine and record causes of failures and communicate findings to the SOC.
  • Communicate outage status to the SOC, on‑site, restoration projections, ETRs, etc.
  • Investigate customer concerns, communicate with customers when needed to provide information.
  • Investigate and correct complaints of interference to telephone, radio, or television reception.
  • Document and submit required records and reports associated with trouble, line patrols, equipment inspections, and other related work.
  • Utilize mobile data terminals as instructed.
  • Operate GOABs that Line Mechanics operate (excluding GOABs with keyed interlock systems), reclosers and cutouts when needed, as well as other equipment that Line Mechanics currently operate.
  • Conduct external substation inspections.
  • Job Qualifications
    • At least one year of experience, must be a fully qualified Line Mechanic.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Preferred: valid Commercial driver’s license (CDL) and satisfactory clean driving record.
    • Physically able to perform the essential duties of the Line Mechanic position.
    • Effectively interact, communicate, and direct the work of other co‑workers.
    • Available to perform overtime and emergency work as required and live within one hour of the reporting location.
    Retention Policy

    Once qualified as a Response Specialist Classification, remains in the position for a minimum of three (3) years from the date of transfer and will not be entitled to apply for posted job openings outside of the RSO during this period.
