EMPLOYMENT BEGINS

School Year

PRIMARY PURPOSE
  • Plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program that utilizes research findings, technology, and community resources to maximize student achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Demonstrate cognitive understanding of subject matter and pedagogical skills in the teaching field.
  • Exhibit excellent communication, public‑relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Instruct students and manage behavior effectively.
  • Apply change‑process, organizational development, conflict‑resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Build consensus and organize instructional plans for short and long range based on strategies, discipline knowledge, student needs, community, and curriculum.
  • Differentiate instruction for diverse learning styles, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Develop varied instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and critical‑thinking techniques.
  • Apply formative and summative assessment to monitor progress, modify instruction, and set goals.
  • Use media communication that respects student differences.
  • Understand technology impact in curricular areas.
  • Follow all MISD policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered by the administration.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned areas.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment suited to students’ maturity, interests, and abilities.
  • Guide learning toward district curriculum goals.
  • Use varied instructional techniques and media aligned with location and student needs.
  • Assess student accomplishments, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Identify special‑needs students and seek assistance when required.
  • Collaborate with special‑education teachers to modify curricula per IEP guidelines.
  • Develop a student behavior plan that aligns with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records required by law, policy, and regulation.
  • Ensure protection of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students daily and to parents by appointment.
  • Supervise assignments for aides, volunteers, and student teachers, and write evaluations as required.
  • Participate in ongoing professional growth to meet district and personal expectations.
  • Contribute to the teacher evaluation process.
  • Attend campus and district meetings for communication and decision‑making.
  • Participate in traditional school‑sponsored activities as directed by the principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Aides, student teachers, student groups, etc., as assigned by administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands:

  • Communicate complex decisions regarding students’ educational, physical, and emotional well‑being while maintaining emotional control under stress.
  • Stand, walk, and speak for long periods.
  • Lift or move small stacks of textbooks, equipment, desks, and other classroom items.
  • Work irregular hours and long periods of time.
