Farm Data Systems is seeking an In-House SCADA Software Technician to take ownership of testing, configuring, and deploying Ignition-based SCADA software features developed by our remote software engineering team. In addition to leading software configuration for new customer projects, this role will serve as the Tier 2 software support lead for existing projects—diagnosing complex software-related issues, resolving them when possible, and collaborating with engineering for escalations.
You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation for SCADA configurations, software features, and support processes to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Software Testing & Quality Assurance:
Test and validate new Ignition features, scripts, and UI components developed by remote engineers; conduct functional, integration, and regression testing in a controlled test environment; document test cases, results, and release notes for internal and external use. - SCADA Configuration & Deployment:
Lead software configuration for new customer projects including tag setup, alarm rules, logging, and dashboards; coordinate with field teams during commissioning to validate live functionality. - Tier 2 Software Support:
Act as primary contact for escalated software-related customer support cases; diagnose and resolve Ignition configuration, scripting, and integration issues; collaborate with Tier 1 support to refine troubleshooting procedures; escalate unresolved issues to remote engineers with reproduction steps and logs. - Documentation & Standards:
Develop and maintain configuration templates, deployment playbooks, and troubleshooting guides; keep detailed records of configurations and software changes; ensure support documentation is accurate and up to date.
Required:
- 2–4 years with Ignition SCADA (Perspective and/or Vision)
- Proficiency in tag configuration, Python scripting, alarms, and historian setup
- Understanding of PLC/RTU communication (Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA)
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Experience with technical documentation
Preferred:
- Agricultural automation or irrigation experience
- Wireless telemetry (LoRa, cellular)
- Git/version control and QA workflows
- REST API integrations
