Responsibilities

River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration.

We are currently seeking a forward thinking and compassionate Intake/Admissions RN to be part of our Intake Department. The Admissions R.N. is responsible for coordination of all admissions processes and serves as liaison to referral sources, families, payors, physicians, and hospital personnel involved with each admission. The Admissions RN is responsible for processing of inquiry and referral calls and responds to request for hospital and program information, assessment, and possible admission.

Responsibilities also include verifying insurance, triaging patients, completing assessments, entering calls and admissions in computer and completing all admission paperwork with patient. The Admissions R.N. is responsible for effectively communicating with patients, physicians, staff, referral sources and managed care organizations to obtain precertification.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required;
Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Preferred Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of a behavioral health-care facility.

Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the California State Board of Nursing.

Additional Requirements: CPR certification and successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. CPI Training may be obtained during new hire orientation.

Job Requirements: Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal and written. Ability to prioritize; work well under periods of high stress and pressure. Ability to multi‑task and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Demonstrates an understanding of funding entities. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital. Ability to work flexible hours. Requires a basic understanding of computers; and accurate data entry skills. Knowledge of insurance contracts and payors.

Knowledge of precertification for inpatient hospitalization. Experience gathering and documenting medical and clinical information to assess and staff appropriately with physician. Ability to triage for medical and psychiatric needs. Working knowledge of DSM‑V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction and recovery field. Excellent customer service skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families and referral sources.

PHYSICAL,

MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to stand sit or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours.
  • Ability to move frequently is required in the delivery of patient care.
  • Visual acuity is needed for accurate reading of patient charts and for demonstrating activities or assisting patients in activities.
  • Ability to spend 20% of the workday outdoors in temperatures varying from 30°‑100°F and 80% of the work day indoors in temperatures varying from 60°‑85°F.
  • Ability to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts from 200 lbs. (i.e., crash cart, EKG machine, patient on stretcher or in wheelchair).
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. (i.e. juices, charts, patient's belongings) and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs. (a patient).
  • Ability to frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height (obtain supplies, reach in cabinets, use refrigerator), kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist.
  • Ability to frequently handle, through gross and fine manipulations, simple grasping, twisting and fingering of small objects (telephone buttons, thermometers with both hands).
  • Ability to operate a van in a safe manner.
  • Ability to see well enough to read written material and discern a variety of odors.
  • Ability to occasionally handle hazardous/infectious waste.
