TECH - MH/BH (NO DEGREE) MID SHIFT
River Vista Behavioral Health, a 128‑bed behavioral health facility located along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, is hiring a Mental Health Technician for its nursing team. The role is a mid‑shift position with no degree required, providing high‑quality and advanced behavioral health services to patients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics.
Responsibilities- Provide continuous patient care and maintain safety of all assigned patients, including verifying patient safety every 15 minutes.
- Observe and document changes in patients’ appearance, behaviour and progress toward treatment plan goals.
- Communicate changes in patient condition to Charge Nurse or Nursing Manager.
- Understand and apply crisis intervention techniques and administer the appropriate care, including seclusion and restraint procedures as needed.
- Assist patients in achieving their optimum level of independent functioning.
- Document services rendered according to established criteria.
- Perform therapeutic activities and escort patients to meals, activities and other healthcare facilities.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and facility information and adhere to all safety policies.
- Attend mandatory in‑services and staff development activities and maintain related records.
- Participate in performance improvement activities (e.g., in‑services, auditing).
- Demonstrate appropriate therapeutic boundaries and follow established procedures.
- Provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to group offerings and therapeutic objectives.
- Apply specific standards for the care of child (ages 5‑11), adolescent (12‑18), adult (19‑64) and geriatric (65+) patients, including knowledge of developmental stages, use of seclusion/ restraint, and tailoring of treatment goals.
- Collaborate with chemical dependency staff professionals for individuals with chemical dependency, maintaining awareness of co‑dependency issues.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years of related experience in psychiatric patient care.
- Knowledge of psychiatric care techniques and understanding of mental illness.
- Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
- CPR certification.
- Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during new hire orientation.
- Strong knowledge of the Joint Commission, HCFA, OSHA regulations, patient rights standards, and applicable federal and state laws governing mental health care facilities.
- Ability to work fast‑paced environment, adhere to safety policies, maintain confidentiality, and function as a team member.
- Ability to hear and communicate, with or without correction.
- Stand, sit or walk for up to six hours; sit for up to two hours.
- Move frequently and lift up to 25 lbs. with assistance, occasionally up to 200 lbs. when pushing/pulling wheeled carts.
- Work in temperatures ranging from 30°‑110°F outdoors and 60°‑85°F indoors; tolerate varying noise levels and chemical exposures.
- Handle hazardous or infectious waste on occasion.
- Operate stethoscope and perform “Handle With Care” techniques competently.
- Work every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) as required.
