The California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) invites applicants for the position of Recreation Therapist (RT) at Central California Women's Facility (CCWF), located in Chowchilla, CA (Madera County).

Salary Range:
Base pay starts at $9,159 (subject to adjustments under the Personal Leave Program 2025). Please discuss final compensation with a recruiter.

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist (CF) or Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I (CF), the Recreation Therapist develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Instructing and motivating patients in individual and group recreation therapy sessions.
  • Monitoring and documenting treatment progress.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers to integrate recreational therapy assessments into treatment plans.
  • Maintaining order and supervising patient conduct to safeguard safety.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with a major in recreation or recreation therapy, including supervised field work.
  • Experience:

    Demonstrated ability to conduct therapeutic recreation programs in a correctional setting.
  • Other:
    Ability to adhere to CCHCS policies, maintain professional conduct, and comply with required documentation standards.
