Under general supervision, reviews building plans for compliance with applicable codes and regulations; issues, processes, and approves building permits; explains building codes, ordinances, and policies to architects, contractors, engineers, and the general public; and performs related duties as assigned.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by specialized training in construction technology, engineering, construction inspection, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible plan check experience at a level equivalent to the County’s class of Plan Checker I.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain by the time of appointment, an appropriate California driver’s license.
- Possession of residential plan check certification issued by the ICC.
