Heavy Equipment Operator - Yard

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment such as rear-loader garbage truck.
• Operates equipment such as knuckle boom loader.
• Operates equipment such as roll-off truck.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Adds necessary fluids for the performance of the equipment being operated.
• Trains other employees in the operation of equipment in efficient manner.
• Reports mechanical problems with equipment to the supervisor.
• Performs walk around inspections as required for CDL drivers to check tires, lights, and look for leaks.
• Collects materials along a predetermined route daily.
• Picks up rubbish, brush, limbs and leaves by hand or with hand tools.
• Picks up trash, stove, refrigerators and other goods to be deposited at the landfill.
• Cleans around trash can areas and containers.

The Heavy Equipment Operator should possess at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least three (3) years  experience in operating heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver s License (CDL).

Possession of valid Georgia Driver s License

• Knowledge of the operation and care of heavy-duty equipment such as rear loader garbage truck, knuckle boom loader, and roll-off truck.
• Ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately written and oral instructions.
• Skill in the safe operation, servicing, and inspection of specialized heavy equipment.
• Skill in the operation of equipment utilizing hydraulic controls.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
• Ability to collect all materials on the route assigned.
