Job Title

Maintenance Lead

Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Lead is a working supervisor responsible for performing and coordinating hands‑on maintenance and repair activities across a higher education campus. This role emphasizes technical expertise in commercial HVAC systems and familiarity with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems. The Maintenance Lead will guide a small team, prioritize work orders, and ensure timely completion of tasks while actively participating in maintenance work.

Pay: $70,000 - $75,000

Responsibilities
  • Perform and lead maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, cooling towers, and building automation systems.
  • Assist with diagnosing and resolving MEP system issues to prevent equipment failures.
  • Utilize CMMS to review and update work orders, track progress, and maintain accurate records.
  • Balance hands‑on preventive maintenance with service and repair tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and college environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Participate in routine inspections and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and communicate priorities to team members.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations and be available for on‑call support.
  • Assist with small‑scale projects and equipment installations as directed.
  • Complete required training and craft self‑assessments within designated timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Strong technical skills in commercial HVAC systems; familiarity with MEP systems.
  • Ability to lead by example in a hands‑on environment.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills, including CMMS and Microsoft Office.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair; experience with MEP systems a plus.
  • Previous experience in a lead or working supervisor role preferred.
  • Ability to work non‑standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call rotations.
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks (lifting, climbing, etc.).

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.

The compensation for the position is: $63,750.00 - $75,000.00.
