As Assistant Store Manager, you are an ambassador for the store, delivering excellent hospitality to guests and team members. In partnership with the Store Manager, you help strengthen team engagement, maximize productivity, and drive business results.
What You'll Do- Serve as a store ambassador and model exemplary hospitality for guests and staff.
- Create and manage team schedules aligned with customer traffic.
- Analyze sales, P&L, and other metrics to make business decisions and develop improvement plans.
- Forecast and maintain store teams by partnering with the Talent Acquisition team to source, select, and hire new staff.
- Partner with Guest Services Manager to provide hospitable orientation and onboarding.
- Train staff through The Fresh Market Academy and on‑the‑job training.
- Coach team members to optimize operations and support development, boosting retention.
- Manage inventory and minimize product loss.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and policies.
- Oversee the store’s social media presence in accordance with guidelines.
- Collaborate with department managers to enhance teamwork and engagement.
- Ensure all safety protocols, including food safety, are followed.
This position requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent and 5‑7 years of retail experience, with several years in a leadership role.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and layout schematics.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures.
- Experience in perishable, hospitality, or grocery retail.
- Experience with production planning software.
- Experience with applicant tracking software (iCIMS preferred).
- Repetitive hand/arm movements, bending, reaching; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Use of tools: knives, ladders, step stools, pallet jacks.
- Long periods standing and walking.
- Must wear appropriate safety equipment.
