American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.
Details- Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, A-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
- Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management includes insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; titration for HR only (not BP)
- EMR:
Epic (experience required) - Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, with 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Travelers will float to all Med/Surg Telemetry units within the facility as needed
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Med/Surg certification is a plus
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Strong assessment, time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education skills
- Epic EMR experience required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Support staff includes CNAs (vitals, glucose checks, ADLs, patient safety), a unit secretary (on-unit 7a–11p, house-wide after), charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge and resource nurses who float to all units, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Central telemetry monitoring unit provides additional telemetry support
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage requires working one shift of each major holiday period (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- RTO requests must be submitted for manager approval
- RNs are required to wear navy scrubs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
