American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details- Float pool position covering all Med/Surg Telemetry units within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common med/surg comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- EMR:
Epic (experience required) - IV pumps:
Alaris; medication dispensing:
Pyxis; monitors:
Philips; vital signs: VS3 monitors
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR band management, and groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, nicardipine (titration for HR only, not BP)
- Required clinical skills: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, Glucommander, patient assessment, time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
- Med/Surg certification is a plus
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Travelers float to all Med/Surg Telemetry units within the facility as needed
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries (on-unit 7a–11p, house-wide after), charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a floating resource team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), and intensivists (24/7)
- Central telemetry monitoring unit available
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage expected for major holidays:
Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1 - All time-off requests must be submitted to and approved by the manager
