American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital, caring for cardiac and step-down ICU patients on a 12-hour day shift schedule.
Details- Work setting is a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma designated teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Unit is a 30-bed cardiac med/surg telemetry floor (5 Heart)
- Patient population includes pre/post cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6; 2–3 CNAs are available per shift
- 12-hour day shifts, 7A–7P, on a 6-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend rotation requires 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to all in-house med/surg telemetry units
- EMR is Epic; experience preferred
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR/EKG rhythm interpretation) certifications required
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Medical-surgical nursing national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
- Experience with glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and cardiac rate-titrating drips required
- Skills in wound care, post-op monitoring, telemetry interpretation, and cardiac monitoring required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; no radius rule applies — the same rate is offered regardless of proximity to the facility
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position with an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage is required — travelers are expected to work approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
- RTO requests require manager approval
- RNs are required to wear navy scrubs
- Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7A–11P), a house-wide call secretary (11P–7A), a charge nurse, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource float team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, intensivist, and a central telemetry monitoring unit
- A clinical interview with the unit manager is required as part of the hiring process
