Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details
  • 30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital that also serves as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes pre/post cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 with 2–3 CNAs per shift
  • Cardiac telemetry is monitored by a Central Telemetry Unit
  • EMR:
    Epic (experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, and PCA pain management
  • 12-hour shifts, available on both day (7A–7P) and night (7P–7A) rotations
  • Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage expected for major holidays:
    Thanksgiving or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • Floating required to all in-house Med/Surg Telemetry units
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
  • Active RN license — GA or compact license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) / EKG rhythm interpretation required (assessed during onboarding)
  • ACLS preferred but not required
  • Medical-surgical nursing certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma and/or academic teaching hospital experience preferred given care environment
  • Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrating cardiac rate drips (BP titration not required)
  • Skills in IV insertion, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
  • Experience with Glucommander preferred
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide telemetry-monitored care to cardiac and step-down ICU patients, including discharge planning and patient education with a focus on renal and fluid management
  • Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7A–11P), house-wide call secretary (11P–7A), charge nurse, PICC team, discharge nurses, resource float team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • RTO requests require manager approval; scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle
  • Required scrub color for RNs is navy
  • Free parking is available around campus
  • Unit culture is described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; the same rate is offered to local travelers at this GA facility
