Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a GA or compact license and strong ED skills.

Responsibilities
  • Position is in the Emergency Department of a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain, and Stroke Center designations
  • Unit has 61 beds plus surge capacity, caring for a variety of critical and acute patients
  • Common patient types include trauma, chest pain, strokes, diabetic emergencies, abdominal pain, mental health crises, and MVCs
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, varying by assigned zone
  • Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary, charge nurse, PICC team, RT, hospitalists, intensivists, and central telemetry
  • Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Phillips monitors, and specialized emergency equipment
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, with a schedule cycle every 6 weeks
  • Required to work 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or floating outside the Emergency Department
  • Holiday coverage required for one shift of each major holiday
  • Nurses will participate in care of diverse emergencies, including trauma, cardiac, neurological, and behavioral health cases
  • Team-oriented department with strong interdisciplinary support and a busy, fast-paced culture
  • Department provides orientation with one day for hospital modules and two days of department-specific onboarding
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free or paid parking options available on campus
  • RTO requests require manager approval
Requirements
  • Active GA or compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ED RN experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
  • Ability to pass EKG competency exam (BCR) as part of compliance
  • Proficiency with Level 1 Trauma emergency room care and critical medication drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
  • Experience using Epic EMR preferred
  • National certification in emergency nursing is preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
