Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring a GA or compact RN license, BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Position is in a 14-bed Medical ICU within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, GI bleed, DKA, stroke, ARDS, overdoses, and those requiring chronic ventilators or trachs
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1-2, rarely 1:3
- Works 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with six weekend shifts required per six week schedule
- Floating to all adult ICU and PCU units may be required
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, and Phillips monitors
- Orientation includes one day for facility education and two days for departmental training
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including 24/7 RT, hospitalists, intensivists, CNAs, unit secretaries, and a resource team
- Responsible for managing critically ill patients including those requiring hemodynamic monitoring, insulin/heparin drips, and ventilator support
- Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucose management, and use of various ICU equipment
- Navy scrubs are required for RN staff
- Free parking is available around campus with additional paid options
- Position is open to first-time travelers
- Holiday and weekend rotation is required
- Active GA or compact state RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU RN experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- CCRN certification is preferred but not required
- Experience with ventilator management, invasive lines, vasoactive drips, and bedside procedures such as chest tubes and tracheostomy
- Previous experience using Epic EMR is preferred
