Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position at a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital, requiring a GA or Compact RN license and strong critical care skills.

• Work in a 14-bed Medical ICU in a large hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation and teaching environment
• Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, DKA, stroke, and hemodynamically unstable cases
• Typical RN patient ratio is 1:1-2, with rare 1:3 assignments
• Requires care for chronic ventilator and tracheostomy patients, with invasive line and complex medication management
• Uses EPIC for EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis for medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and various advanced ICU equipment
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) with requirement to work 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
• Floating required to all adult ICU units and PCU within the hospital
• No on-call or call-back responsibilities
• Primary duties include management of critically ill patients, vasoactive drips, and supporting bedside procedures
• Strong interdisciplinary team support with CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist presence
• Central Telemetry Unit monitors all telemetry patients
• Orientation includes one day of facility orientation with education modules and two days of department training
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Navy scrubs required for RNs

• Busy unit culture focused on teamwork and high-acuity care
• Holiday coverage is required per facility schedule

• Active GA or Compact RN license
• Current certifications in NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS
• Minimum of 2 years ICU RN experience required
• Ability to manage trach care, chest tubes, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips, invasive lines, and ventilator support
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• CCRN certification preferred but not required
