Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital night shift position requiring a GA or compact RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a busy Emergency Department of a Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital
- 61+ bed ED with additional surge capacity
- Patient population includes trauma, chest pain, stroke, diabetes, mental health, and acute medical cases
- Nurse to patient ratio averages 1:4 depending on zone
- 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, on a 6-week schedule
- Weekend rotation requires 6 weekend shifts per 6-week cycle
- No on-call or floating outside the ED
- Use of EPIC EMR required; specialized equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Phillips monitors, and central telemetry
- Central Telemetry, RT, Hospitalist, Intensivist, charge nurse, CNA, and phlebotomy support available 24/7
- Must work one shift on each major holiday, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Day, and New Year's Eve or Day
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this position
- Department offers in-depth team support including a designated transport team, hospitalists, and a PICC team
- Unit provides a 1-day facility orientation with additional 2-day departmental training
- Navy scrubs required for RN staff
- Free parking is available on campus, with optional paid deck parking
- Manager approval needed for RTO requests
- Collaborative, high-volume team environment with a strong culture of teamwork
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (must pass EKG competency exam)
- Emergency nursing national certification preferred
- Ability to safely titrate emergency drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
- Experience with Level 1 Trauma procedures and emergency care
- Experience with EPIC charting system required
