Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a GA or compact license, BLS and ACLS, to work night shifts in a busy Level 1 trauma and teaching hospital.

• Position is for the ICU within a large hospital with Level 1 trauma designation
• Float required to all ICU units including CCU, MICU, NICU, PCU, CVICU, and STICU
• Patients include medical, surgical trauma, neuro, cardiovascular, and step-down populations
• ICU nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2; PCU ratios are 1:3-4
• 12-hour night shifts (7P–7A) with a 6-week scheduling cycle
• Weekend schedule includes 5-6 shifts every 12 or every other weekend
• No on-call or call back requirements
• Will float to Med/Tele units as needed
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Phillips monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
• Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary, charge nurse, discharge nurse, PICC team, RT, hospitalist and intensivist 24/7
• Central telemetry unit with RNs responsible for strip sign-off
• 1 day general orientation and 2 days unit-specific training provided
• Holiday work required: must work either 12/24 or 12/25 and 12/31 or 1/1
• RTO requests must be approved by manager
• First-time travelers accepted
• Navy scrubs required for RNs

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years recent ICU RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
• Experience with trach care, chest tubes, PIV starts, glucometers, and titrating drips (insulin, heparin, narcotic, paralytic, vasopressors, sedation, cardiac)
• Epic EMR experience preferred
