Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a busy transition unit, requiring a GA or compact license and strong clinical skills.
Responsibilities- Position is located in an Admission Discharge Transition Unit within a hospital setting
- Unit has 16 beds with an average patient census of 16
- Patient population includes chest pain, hypertension, diabetes, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, and post-op patients waiting for inpatient admission
- RN to patient ratio is 1:4-6
- Requires work on a 12-hour day shift from 7A-7P
- Weekend rotation requires 6 shifts in a 6-week cycle
- Holiday coverage requires one major holiday shift per cycle
- Floating to all adult med/surg and telemetry units is required
- Epic EMR is used and experience is preferred
- Unit uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, and central telemetry monitoring
- RN is responsible for patient assessment, implementing nursing interventions, administering drips, and coordinating discharge planning
- Support team includes CNAs, unit secretaries, resource nurses, and 24/7 access to RTs, hospitalists, intensivists, and a PICC team
- High turnover of patients and rapid admission/discharge protocols
- Scrub color for RNs is navy

- One day of facility orientation and two days of departmental orientation provided
- Manager approval required for requested time off
- Current GA or compact RN license
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Med/Surg Tele RN
- Associate's degree or higher in nursing
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Strong clinical assessment skills, time management, and ability to coordinate with interdisciplinary teams
- IV insertion and maintenance, cardiac monitoring and interpretation, chest tube management, trach care, and drip management skills are required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must complete BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) test during onboarding
