Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a Med/Surg Tele unit within a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation
- Units have 20-36 beds and serve diverse adult inpatient populations
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6
- Common conditions include general medical/surgical cases with telemetry monitoring
- Shift is 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with every other weekend rotation
- Must float to Baldwin and all Med/Surg Tele units as needed
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- EMR system is Epic, with Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication system, and Phillips monitors
- Responsible for caring for adult med/surg and telemetry patients, managing central lines, and titrating drips according to HR
- Support provided by CNAs, charge nurse, unit secretary, PICC team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams
- Central telemetry unit monitors patients throughout the facility
- Orientation includes one day of facility and education modules, plus two days of departmental training
- Navy scrubs required for RNs
- Must work one holiday per major holiday pair (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- Team-oriented, busy work environment with strong interdisciplinary support
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS preferred; must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Tele RN experience required
- Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and management of common drips such as insulin and heparin
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
