Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Systems, the financial aid loan coordinator manages all aspects of the federal, state, and private student loan program for the University. The position assists students in completing the student loan process, correctly determines and verifies loan eligibility for student and parent loans, and counsels students and parents on all aspects of borrowing education loans.

The Loan Coordinator interacts and communicates with students, parents, loan servicers, lenders, the U.S. Department of Education, and various departments within the University. The role requires strong technical and analytical skills self‑direction, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Process Federal, State, and Alternative Loans (60%):
    Process student loan applications, certify loans within federal, state, and institutional guidelines, certify through Banner, send, receive, and load electronic files, resolve rejections, and process loan revisions and adjustments.
  • Advise students, parents, and staff on loan policies and procedures; reply to inquiries via phone, email, in person, or virtually.
  • Assist with steps in the financial aid process including FAFSA completion, accepting loans, completing Entrance, signing Master Promissory Notes, etc.
  • Determine prior financial aid received at other institutions via NSLDS to ensure proper award.
  • Default Management (20%):
    Liaison with guarantee agencies, lenders, and loan servicers; perform exit interview sessions/mailings for withdrawn and graduating students; coordinate outreach for loan repayment; plan, develop, and implement default prevention services; contribute to lowering default rates.
  • Financial Aid Advising (10%):
    Serve as backup for file processing, customer service, and advising during peak times; represent the Office at internal and external events; assist with open house, orientation, etc.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (10%):
    Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements
    : A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Other Required Qualifications
    :
    Availability to work evenings/weekends during peak periods.
  • Required Experience
    :
    At least two years relevant experience, such as a similar position or apprenticeship/internship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.

  • Ability to use automated student information systems.
  • Research, interpret, and apply complex rules for Title IV, state, and institutional aid.
  • Professional judgment in administering student financial aid awards.

  • Computer operation and job‑related software proficiency.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Multi‑tasking abilities and processing large volumes accurately.
