Instrumentation Technician

Overview

This role performs work with automation equipment, instruments, electronics, and control functions for the MWA. The position also performs PLC, SCADA, and HMI programming.

• Follow safety guidelines as outlined by OSHA
• Programs computers, SCADA Systems, PLCs, and OITs that control water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, re-pump stations, and maintain and troubleshoot systems.
• Develop in Rockwell Software Logix 5, Logix 500, Logix 5000, Studio 5000, and Rockwell visualization software.
• Develop in Schneider Software Unity, Pro Worx, Concept, and Vijeo Designer
• Develop in Wonderware Software Intouch
• Knowledge of how to develop Ethernet networks.
• Knowledge of virtual imaging software and how to build and maintain VMs.
• Maintain all instrumentation records and calibration data on a software system and programmable calibration tools.
• Troubleshoot industrial control systems (AC and DC) and make repairs as needed
• Work around medium voltages 4160 VAC and greater
• Assist in maintaining equipment used in industrial pretreatment programs
• Maintain SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers, alarms, radio systems, software, and hardware.
• Makes emergency calls and assists Plant Operators when called upon
• Takes scheduled on-call
• Maintains instrumental equipment such as flow meters or transmitters
• Install, maintain, and repair variable frequency drives
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested by supervisors.
• Keep drawings and written documents up to date and redlined to the current system configuration.
• Effectively communicate issues affecting electrical and instrumentation systems (written and oral)
• Supply input and create engineering standards for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and instrumentation assets.
• Document work requirements and improvements through the AMS (Asset Management System) for effective planning and scheduling of all work. Support maintenance planners and schedulers to input PM and corrective work packages
• Create SOPs for the operations personnel on their critical systems for effective operations.
• Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action.
• Initiate and complete work orders and requisitions and document all critical information routinely.
• Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must reside within 30 to 45 minutes of downtown Macon
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in electrical or instrumentation
• Minimum of 4 years experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting
• Willing to work on both electrical systems and control systems
• Experience with small and large horsepower VFD drives
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience with analyzers, field transmitters, control valves, Field buses, and other communications protocols
• Knowledge of Cisco Networking Switches is a plus
• Able to work without direct supervision and accept leadership roles when required
• Valid GA driver’s license with a clean driving record

• The position requires some exposure to working outside, insect bites/stings, poisonous plants, and possibly reptiles
• Frequent exposure to dry conditions, high and low humidity, wetness, and inclement weather
• Exposure to dust, outside work, sunburn, and moving objects (such as heavy equipment or road traffic)
• Occasional exposure to working over water, working at heights, and in confined spaces
• Exposure to chemicals includes, but is not limited to:
  Gasoline, Diesel Fuel, Motor Oil, Hydraulic Oil, Natural Gas, Exhaust fumes, Insecticides, Chlorine, Asphalt/Tar, Liquid Lime
