Job Summary

The Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Science is a full-time 10‑month tenure track position and is responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction in undergraduate and/or graduate rehabilitation science courses, including classroom and laboratory teaching, student advising, and participation in curriculum development and program assessment. The position supports student success through mentoring and engagement in experiential learning activities while contributing to departmental, college, and university service.

Faculty are expected to engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities that support the mission and growth of the Rehabilitation Science program.

Responsibilities Teaching (80%)

Use a variety of methods to deliver assigned courses, utilizing best practices in adult education.

Provide varied learning opportunities through the use of available instructional materials, media, supplies, and available community resources.

Integrate student assessment into student learning activities and curriculum.

Provide posted/scheduled office hours to assist and advise students outside of class/lab time.

Provide students with accurate course syllabi.

Provide students with accurate course assessment measures at the start of each class.

Evaluate students on a regular basis and keep them informed of their progress.

Participate in the process of assessing student learning, analyzing the data/findings, and recommending actions based on the findings.

Program Operations and Evaluation (15%)

Evaluate courses taught and complete course evaluation form; revise syllabi and teaching activities in response to review.

Participate in planning and conducting program advisory board meetings and activities as assigned.

Assist in analysis of feedback from graduate surveys, employer surveys, focus groups, and advisory board meetings.

Participate in other program and/or department evaluation activities including review of mission, philosophy, curriculum design, facilities and resources, and strategic plan.

Assist in orientation, open house, etc. activities as needed.

Assist in student recruitment as applicable.

Assist with program correspondence, surveys, and forms.

Assist with ensuring that instructional equipment is maintained in working condition and maintenance of physical inventory.

Recommend procurement of program/course supplies and equipment as appropriate.

Follow safety procedures as stated in university/program safety manuals and within industry standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties (5%) Advising
  • Advise assigned students.
  • Participate in the registration process for students and potential students as needed.
  • Refer students to professional counseling staff when appropriate.
  • Assist other faculty with the function of the program’s student organization, or serves as faculty advisor for the program’s student organization, as applicable.
Professional Development
  • Maintain appropriate state licensure and/or certification.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to improve teaching skills and to remain current in areas of expertise.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and issues impacting the field of rehabilitation science.
  • Promote a positive image by being an advocate for the program and the university.
