Job DescriptionThe Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for Bookkeeper for School Year.
JOB SUMMARY
This position performs various accounting functions such as data entry into financial software, reviewing documentation for processing to ensure accuracy of data and adherence to procedures, preparing corrections to records, assist with training of school level secretarial or bookkeeping staff, compiling information, and other accounting duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs a variety of activities to maintain internal control of school activity funds through a computerized accounting system.
- Provides answers to inquiries from Principals and Directors regarding fund availability.
- Provides instruction and training to school and departmental personnel on how to utilize software system.
- Enters information into the software system for the school activity accounts as needed.
- Verifies cash and deposits made by school staff, ensuring that all monies received have been properly receipted and promptly deposited.
- Verifies that all purchases have proper documentation.
- Verifies accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings of business transactions recorded by other employees.
- Reviews activity in any ongoing Board-approved fundraisers.
- Reviews concessions sales and performs gross profit analysis as needed.
- Posts and records transactions.
- Prepares monthly reports.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are followed at the school level for the school activity accounts.
- Performs bank reconciliations.
- Assists with payroll processing as needed.
- Assists with preparation for auditors as needed.
- Assists with accounts payable as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency;
Associate’s degree preferred. Three (3) years of experience in accounting. Experience in governmental or school accounting is preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

- Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of internal controls.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of computerized accounting programs.
- Skill in typing and/or operation of a computer keyboard.
- Good mathematical/accounting skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle deadlines.
- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with school employees, vendors, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform works requiring meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

117 – Placement on salary schedule based on years of experience. Up to ten (10) years allowed. - The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for
225 day work year;8 hours per day pay over the course of the employee’s tenure.
