Multi-site Dermatology Group Seeks Medical Assistant
Optima Dermatology is recruiting an experienced full‑time Medical Assistant to join our growing Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics group in Macedonia, OH, working out of our Mohs suite.
The following is an overview of the essential job functions and responsibilities. This list is not all‑encompassing:
Responsibilities- Prepares exam rooms for patient use by cleaning between patients and ensuring each room is stocked with the appropriate supplies. Prepares procedure trays as necessary.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms, checks vital signs, interviews patients to assess needs, records reason for visit, current medications, takes temperature if necessary, instructs patients on preparation for physician's examination, and completes routine forms as appropriate.
- Assists physicians and other providers with patient procedures such as suture removal, wart and mole removal, and minor surgeries.
- Prepares specimens for external labs by packaging appropriately, completing requisition forms, and contacting testing facilities as needed. Submits lab results to physicians before contacting patients and files charts.
- Schedules on‑site and off‑site diagnostic tests and procedures, provides patients with preparation instructions, and makes appointments by phone. Records ordered procedures and tracks results.
- Facilitates referrals to other physicians by calling offices, making appointments, and forwarding requested test results.
- Contacts hospitals and outside sources regarding lab results, x‑ray results, and ER reports; pharmacies to authorize prescriptions; nursing homes regarding patient orders; and patients to relay test result information. Returns patient phone calls with physician recommendations.
- Pre‑certifies medications and referrals by contacting insurance professionals, providing requested information, and recording pre‑certification numbers in charts. Records and tracks all referrals.
- Manually inventories drugs, checks expiration dates, orders replenishments as needed, and orders back‑office supplies as necessary.
- Disinfects exam rooms and labs and straightens the reception area daily.
- Performs all duties while respecting patient confidentiality and safety for patients, employees, and physicians.
- Communicates with physicians and office managers on all issues vital to the improvement and continued success of the practice.
- Demonstrated ability in taking patient vitals, injection/immunization procedures, charting and documentation, exam room preparation, infectious waste handling, sterile techniques, and routine lab procedures and collection.
- Oral communication skills needed to develop patient rapport and discuss orders with patients, families, and pharmacies.
- Written communication skills necessary for charting and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability in handling patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work with peers in a team situation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Licensed medical assistant or further nursing degree.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a dermatology medical office preferred.
- Experience utilizing Modernizing Medicine / EMA Electronic Medical Record (EMR) highly preferred.
