WORK SCHEDULE

This is a non‑benefited, at‑will part‑time position. Temporary/seasonal/part‑time employment status does not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law. Part‑time shifts may not exceed 20 hours per week, or 950 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Part‑time positions are "at‑will". There are no rights to employment and employment may end at any time with or without cause or advance notice.

Candidates may be required to work irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on‑call status. Working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Community Development Director.

THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Lead Public Safety Officer, as assigned, the incumbent performs a variety of duties across the divisions of Code Enforcement, Parking Enforcement and Animal Control. Incumbents are assigned to all functions and may be required to work evenings and weekends.

WHEN ASSIGNED TO CODE ENFORCEMENT

Definition

Under supervision, performs a broad variety of field and support service duties in the community; serves as a field services liaison in assisting residents and businesses in developing and establishing public safety and anti‑crime programs; assists in code enforcement efforts; provides information on home and business security; identifies appropriate resource services; ensures timely resolution of complaints from the public; and attends community meetings as directed.

Examples of Duties

  • Promotes and encourages the involvement of residents and businesses in establishing public safety programs in the community designed to provide a safer environment.
  • Patrols assigned areas to observe and protect City and public property against vandalism, reporting criminal activity and other offenses.
  • Recognizes potential problems and makes recommendations for their correction.
  • Prepares reports, maintains complaint ledgers, files and other records of investigation; conducts community surveys; works cooperatively with City departments to expedite and resolve problems.
  • Assists in code enforcement activities by observing and reporting suspected or obvious violations of zoning and other planning ordinances and taking appropriate action, ranging from issuing notices of violation and citations for non‑compliance and counseling individuals regarding abatement, nuisance, vandalism or other infractions.
  • Verifies local businesses for proper licensing; attends neighborhood block watch meetings to develop and increase their efficiency by engaging in dialogue that produces ideas and/or recommendations that result in security from threat or danger.
  • Serves as field services liaison to the community, establishing and maintaining an open communication between the City, community, resource organizations and law enforcement activities in the City.
  • Participates in required staff meetings, community meetings and in‑service training.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO PARKING CONTROL ENFORCEMENT

Definition

Under supervision, patrols areas of the City, enforces parking regulations and issues citations; arranges for the removal of abandoned vehicles from City streets; maintains a variety of records; and performs other job‑related work as required.
