Position: Instructional Assistant Special Needs (SUBSTITUTE ONLY)

WRITTEN EXAMINATION

The written examination portion of the test may have multiple steps (100% of the total score).

PARTICIPATION IN ALL PORTIONS OF THE EXAMINATION PROCESS IS BY OFFICIAL INVITATION ONLY. Candidates who do not participate in all parts of the testing process will not be considered for the position.

POSITION DETAILS AND DUTIES

SUBSTITUTE POSITION: SIX (6), SEVEN (7), OR EIGHT (8) HOURS PER DAY; TEN (10) OR ELEVEN (11) MONTHS PER YEAR.

BASIC FUNCTION

The job of an Instructional Assistant Special Needs is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; assisting in meeting special needs, including feeding, toileting, positioning, monitoring, and behavioral concerns;

and attending IEP meetings. This job reports to a Designated Administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children in an instructional setting is preferred.
  • ALL CANDIDATES MUST TAKE AND OBTAIN A PASSING SCORE on the Lynwood Unified School District Proficiency Assessment (Written Examination).
  • Any other combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required skills may be considered.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Will be required within 3 months upon offer.
  • Valid First Aid certification issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Will be required within 3 months upon offer.
  • Employees must maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications during employment.
INITIAL QUALIFICATIONS DOCUMENT SUBMISSION OPTIONS

Unofficial documents/transcripts will be accepted for initial consideration. If a job offer is extended, official documents/transcripts will be required for employment processing.

OPTION 1

Submit all required documentation/certifications in original form IN-PERSON to the Human Resources, Classified Personnel department at 11321 Bullis Road, Lynwood, CA before or by the closing date. Copies will be made.

Applications without supporting documents will be considered incomplete and will be disqualified. Foreign diploma/degree/transcripts must be evaluated to meet the United States equivalent to be considered.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

You must submit original high school diploma or GED, or official/unofficial transcripts from high school/college documenting graduation, or a college degree (Associate degree or higher).
