Field Sales Representative

Summary

The Field Sales Representative drives DPI sales at customer sites within an assigned territory through product placement, promotional selling, and effective display of merchandise. This role requires intra‑ and interstate travel, with overnight travel as needed, and projecting a positive image to DPI customers while adhering to DPI policies and procedures. The representative works independently and collaborates with coworkers, customers, and vendors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage in product sales and additional promotional sales through service visits at customer sites.
  • Merchandise products for display and placement to attract sales at customer stores and secondary and perimeter locations.
  • Transport products from storage areas and place them onto customer shelves or displays.
  • Maintain quality and quantity of products on shelves by rotating, checking expiration dates, and replenishing with back stock.
  • Conduct inventory counts and reconcile orders for customer accounts, verifying delivery records with product delivered.
  • Create and transmit customer credits for spoiled and/or returned goods.
  • Submit orders for product replenishment and other paperwork in a timely manner, meeting DPI order deadlines.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times when communicating with store management, personnel, and the public, adhering to DPI’s standards.
  • Reset displays of merchandise at customer locations to enhance product presentation.
  • Maintain fixture cleanliness to enhance sales.
  • Communicate with warehouse personnel and District Manager regarding product discrepancies and customer issues.
  • Plan and carry out daily schedules according to assigned customer locations, traveling throughout the assigned territory and managing timelines for DPI requirements.
  • Coordinate product merchandising needs with Merchandiser and Reset Specialist.
  • Operate office- and field-based electronic equipment for communication and transmission of orders and credits.
  • Operate motor vehicle to travel to and from customer locations.
  • Attend scheduled trainings and meetings as required to meet customer and DPI standards.
  • Attend store inventories to verify product counts, request corrections as needed, and report results to District Manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Basic math skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • One year of experience in DPI operations or a related sales field (perishable experience required for certain areas).
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets DPI’s standards.
  • Reliable transportation and, if using a personal vehicle, adequate automobile liability coverage.
Work Environment

The work environment is indoors with variable temperatures from dry, cold, and freezer product climates. The employee may be exposed to temperature variation during travel. Staging area floors are concrete; customer site aisles are typically on vinyl floor covering.

Work Hours

The schedule is five days a week, eight hours a day. Start times vary. Hours and shifts may change based on business needs and may include overtime, holidays, or weekends.

Physical and Mental Demands

Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects and product. The role includes extensive driving, frequent standing, walking, and following safety protocols, grooming, hygiene, and dress code requirements. Time‑management skills are essential to assist multiple customer accounts in a timely fashion.
