Position: Part-Time Assistive Technology Learning Specialist/Accessibility Counselor

Location: Lynn campus

Unit: Professional MCCC Unit Position

Employment: Non-benefited, 25 hours/week, M-F 9:00-2:00. Contract will be renewed each semester based on budgetary allowance. Summers, breaks between semesters, and holidays are unpaid.

Salary: $36.55/hr.

General Statement Of Duties

Under general supervision, the purpose of the classification is to assist college students who have documented disabilities. This is a hybrid position in which part of the work is assisting students with accessing assistive technology specific to their individual needs in the Assistive Technology Lab. The other duties of this position would include work that is related to the functions of an accessibility counselor.

This includes conducting Intakes, evaluating submitted documentation, making accommodation decisions as a team member, consulting with students and staff related to accommodations governed by the ADAAA, Section 504 and Section 508.

Essential Functions
  • Works as a team member of Accessibility Services facilitating the overall goals and mission of Accessibility Services.
  • Assists Accessibility Services personnel in the evaluation of students' specific assistive technology needs.
  • Assists eligible students with documented disabilities in assistive technology and adaptive equipment to meet their individual needs.
  • Facilitates, proctors and processes all classroom testing for students who require assistive technology
  • Assists with the process of activation of services to students including alternative text accommodations.
  • Convert classroom materials, including tests, when necessary, into accessible documents for students with disabilities.
  • Develops successful teaching pedagogies to facilitate students' knowledge on how to best utilize the Assistive Technology Lab's software and equipment.
  • Provides academic tutorial assistance in association with technology to support the learning differences of students with documented disabilities.
  • Provides information, as necessary, to faculty and staff on the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Presents workshops and seminars, as needed, to faculty and staff on the use of assistive technology.
  • Monitors student utilization of Assistive Technology Lab equipment and collects necessary data for evaluation of services.
  • Troubleshoots, evaluates, and upgrades assistive software and hardware as necessary.
  • Researches the most recent assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Remains current and knowledgeable on available assistive technologies and best practices.
  • Assists in the administrative function and data entry (BANNER) of Accessibility Services.
  • Conducts intake interviews with requesting students to evaluate and interpret diagnostic and medical documentation to determine eligibility of reasonable accommodations.
  • Provides academic, social, and vocational training by maintaining an active caseload of students with disabilities.
  • Consults and serves as resource to college community especially faculty regarding student accommodations and disability information.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Preferred Master’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Assistive Technology or related degree required.
  • Preferred experience working with Assistive Technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Experience in working with students and/or individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of a variety of Assistive Technology tools including JAWS & Kurzweil.
  • Knowledge of current disability laws and ADAAA compliance.
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
  • Preferred working knowledge of BANNER software system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to travel between campuses, if needed.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
