Position: Clinical Registered Nurse II-VBH Med/Surg Intermediate Unit-PRN/7p-7a

Overview

Clinical Registered Nurse II-VBH Med/Surg Intermediate Unit-PRN/7p-7a at Centra Health. The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) II is responsible for managing individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. The Clinical RN II collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members in the development, execution, and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care.

The RN assumes a full patient assignment and can plan, analyze, intervene and set goals for patient care accordingly. This nurse provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing. This RN maintains a safe care environment for their patients (clients) and delivers quality care.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical - Assessment:
    Conducts individualized patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within the timeframe specified by policies, procedures or protocols. Conducts ongoing assessments and reprioritizes care accordingly.
  • Clinical - Planning:
    Develops, modifies, and integrates an individualized care plan incorporating medical plan of care, multidisciplinary elements, and standards of care.
  • Establishes individualized, measurable patient goals in consultation with the patient, family, and health care team.
  • Clinical - Intervention:
    Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by the provider in an accurate and timely manner. Performs therapeutic nursing interventions per the plan of care. Recognizes potential problems and responds to urgent and/or emergent risk. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures as appropriate. Manages care for specialty patient populations and provides culturally sensitive care.
  • Clinical - Evaluation:
    Evaluates patient responses to care and updates the interdisciplinary care plan to improve outcomes. Documents assessment findings and progress toward problem resolution.
  • Clinical - Patient

    Education:

    Identifies learning needs of patients/families and teaches appropriately, ensuring knowledge demonstration within the patient’s abilities. Includes patient/family in the plan of care and respects their determinations about treatment.
  • Self and Peer Learning:
    Maintains competency in nursing specialty, attends required educational programs, pursues professional development, and considers roles such as charge nurse.
  • Collaboration:

    Makes sound judgments coordinating complex patient care, supervises delegated care, and reports changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.
  • Service Recovery:
    Participates in service recovery and uses appropriate resources; handles conflict resolution timely and appropriately.
  • Resource Utilization and Stewardship:
    Supports resource utilization, mentors staff, and participates in orientation and training of students and new employees. May be trained or currently functioning in a charge nurse role.
  • Improvement

    Activities:

    Participates in quality assurance data collection and initiatives, identifies recurring practice concerns, and contributes to quality improvement efforts and safety behaviors.
  • Research/Evidence Based Practice/Quality Improvement:
    May participate in research or EBP projects and communicate findings to peers; contributes to quality improvement data interpretation and implementation.
  • Ethics:
    Maintains confidentiality, protects patient autonomy and rights, and advocates for patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Other Duties As Assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education Minimum:
    Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Education Preferred:
    Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BSN).
  • Work Experience Minimum:
    At least One Year of Nursing (RN) Experience.
  • Licenses & Certifications Minimum:
    Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or a compact license to practice in Virginia;
    Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Additional Specialty Requirements After Hire Date: ACLS (may be waived for 100% remote employees) and unit-specific requirements for areas such as Cath Lab/Electrophysiology, Operating Room, Critical Care, Endoscopy, PACU, Interventional Radiology, Birth Center, Centra Specialty Hospital, Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Pediatrics, and other unit standards as applicable.
