The assistant helps the administration staff in overseeing and assisting all staff in all functions to ensure the provision of quality general and psychiatric care to patients suffering from substance abuse or psychiatric disorders. They oversee day‑to‑day activities of staff in all CCD and nursing areas and assist department managers with scheduling, education, and discipline of staff when needed. They are involved in direct patient care, education, and training, and participate in departmental and hospital meetings as assigned.

They review documentation and work with staff to ensure that documentation is timely, accurate and complete. The house supervisor may also serve as a working RN and routinely personally executes nursing care duties to ensure quality patient care and proper execution and documentation of the treatment plan.

• Manage scheduling and staffing of the nursing department.
• Ensure appropriate coverage of shifts and minimize use of agency staff and overtime.
• Approve or deny staff time‑off requests.
• Monitor staff attendance, keeping accurate records of tardiness, absences, and early departures; assist the DON in payroll execution.
• Provide backup nursing and/or intake assistance for patients, acting as advocate and provider of information.
• Oversee the entire hospital operation during times when administration is not present, maintaining schedules and completing education and coaching as needed.
• Complete evaluations and deliver discipline within the nursing department in a professional and timely manner.
• Assist the DON in conducting department meetings and ensure appropriate documentation of staff attendance.
• Create accurate minutes of meetings.
• Assist in the intake department as necessary.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of regulatory standards including TJC, Medicaid, state and federal laws.
• Perform conflict resolution and mediation with staff, seeking assistance from the DON, intake manager, or HR when necessary.
• Complete investigations thoroughly and promptly, ensuring accurate information and reporting.
• Display comprehensive nursing knowledge, including assessments, treatment planning, discharge and admission procedures, medication distribution, and medical care; personally deliver RN patient care as needed.
• Deliver quality nursing care to ensure treatment plan goals are properly executed following hospital policies and procedures and demonstrated nursing competencies.
