Ship required per government contract. Dual citizenship not permitted. A completed U.S. DOE clearance investigation and current, active eligibility (Q or L) is required to perform on this contract and therefore is required to be considered for this position. An active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance will be accepted initially, with reciprocity to DOE required. Main Sail LLC seeks a COBOL Programmer with IDMS experience to support nuclear manufacturing operations at our client site in Lynchburg, VA.
This role supports modernization of Nuclear Material Control (NMC) and Quality Control Release (QCR) systems in a highly regulated DOE environment. The effort involves refactoring legacy COBOL and IDMS back-end systems into modern SQL and .NET architectures. Existing user front ends will remain in place per client direction. Projects are in progress and expected to continue for up to 12 months, including refactor, test, acceptance, cutover, and post-implementation support.
- Analyze existing COBOL and IDMS code supporting NMC and QCR systems.
- Document current-state data structures, batch processes, and business logic.
- Support migration of IDMS data structures to relational SQL databases.
- Translate legacy business rules into modern SQL and .NET back-end services.
- Assist with data validation, reconciliation, and parallel test execution.
- Support system integration testing and user acceptance testing.
- Resolve defects identified during test and post-cutover support.
- Work closely with client SMEs in nuclear manufacturing and compliance.
- Maintain strict adherence to DOE security and quality requirements.
- 5+ years of COBOL development experience in enterprise environments.
- 3+ years of CA IDMS database development and support experience.
- Experience supporting legacy system modernization or data migrations.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Experience working in regulated manufacturing or government environments.
- Ability to analyze complex legacy code with limited documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Lynchburg, VA. On-site required. Preference for local candidates. Non-local candidates must travel on-site. Billable status applies only while working on-site.
Period of PerformanceApproximately 12 months with potential extensions.
