Job Description
This position is responsible for managing patient registrations in Acute Revenue Cycle Patient Access Departments. As the first point of contact for most Centra patients, this position provides key customer and financial services. It provides pre‑registration, registration, upfront collections/payment plans, medical necessity checking, financial counseling, and referral of patients to appropriate sources for follow‑up as needed.
Responsibilities- Registers patients for various hospital services; meets Patient Access standards by interviewing patients and accurately collecting patient information and demographics for various hospital services.
- Verifies and reviews insurance plans and coordinates benefits on behalf of patients.
- Manages payments at point of service including collecting and posting payments, providing a receipt, and balancing transactions per shift.
- Obtains completed authorizations and notifications of admissions for patients.
- Assists patients with financial clearance of accounts by communicating financial responsibility through estimates, setting up payment plans, and/or providing referrals to financial counselors.
- Responds to phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication.
- Promotes a positive working environment.
- Maintains open communication.
- Complies with governmental regulations in healthcare billing, HIPAA, TJC, CMS, EMTALA, and Centra policies and procedures.
- Provides courteous service to all stakeholders by resolving problems, responding to inquiries, and following up to strengthen customer relationships.
- Fills other shifts and departments as needed within Acute Revenue Cycle Departments.
- Assists in training new hires as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested; job specifications can be modified or updated at any time.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Proficient typing and spelling skills.
- Proficient computer skills, multitasking with data entry while using multiple computer applications.
- Ability to provide high level of customer service, attention to detail, critical thinking, and have proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Some college experience in healthcare, business, accounting and/or professional certification preferred. Associate’s degree and/or bachelor’s degree in medical preferred.
- Patient registration experience or medical office experience.
- Understanding and ability to communicate financial and insurance information.
