Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers confirm imaging orders for completeness, review patient history, and contact ordering physicians when tests are medically inadequate. Sonographers use advanced knowledge in inpatient, outpatient, portable, and operating room settings to produce, assess, and evaluate ultrasound images and related data, exercising independent judgment in interpretation and providing preliminary technical findings to physicians.

Schedule:
Full-time, Part-time, PRN.
Shifts:
Days, Evening, Variable shifts.
- Perform diagnostic ultrasounds and provide quality care to patients of all ages.
- Assess patients appropriately for ordered procedures before, during, and after treatment according to Imaging Services/Departmental Guidelines.
- Assist in training students and staff as assigned.
- Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Prepare patients, collect relevant information, and perform sonographic exams following defined protocols.
- Observe patients’ conditions throughout the procedure and notify physicians of unusual occurrences.
- Compile appropriate records to expedite results.
- Analyze image quality and processes as required.
- Complete data sheets with pertinent patient information before forwarding to radiologist or cardiologist.
- Use the AIDET process (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) to explain procedures and ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Follow departmental standard work and policies.
- Practice aseptic techniques and good infection control consistent with hospital policy.
- Secure and return supplies, maintaining orderliness and cleanliness between patients.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Associated degree or completion of an accredited sonography program and registrable certification in abdominal, obstetrics/gynecology, vascular technology, or cardiac echo.
- Registry‑eligible candidates must become ARDMS‑registered in abdomen within six months or ARDMS/CCI‑registered in adult echo or vascular within one year.
- Certified Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or RDCS by ARDMS or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI within one year.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
