Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied.
Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams, and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician.

Responsibilities
Within a setting renowned for clinical excellence, you will perform diagnostic ultrasounds for the imaging of normal and abnormal structures of the human body and provide quality care to patients of all ages.
- Assess patients appropriately for the procedures ordered prior to, during, and after treatment according to Imaging Services/Departmental Guidelines
- Take part in the training of students and staff as assigned.
- Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- As an Ultrasound Sonographer, you would prepare patients, collect relevant information for completion of procedures, and perform sonographic exams following defined protocols.
- Throughout the procedure, you would be observant of patients’ conditions, and notify physician of unusual occurrences.
- Compile appropriate records to expedite results.
- You will analyze the quality of images and processes as required.
- Completes data sheet containing pertinent patient information following exam prior to forwarding to radiologist or Cardiologist.
- Using the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) process explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during exams.
- Follows department specific standard work and departmental policies.
- Practices aseptic techniques and good infection control procedures consistent with hospital policy.
- Secures and returns supplies and maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the work areas between each patient.
