Position Overview
As our High-Temperature Materials Test Lead, you will be part of a team assisting multiple nuclear development projects in Lynchburg, VA. This role is responsible for defining standard test methodologies, performing materials testing, and mentoring peers; while supporting a wide variety of programs for space, defense, and commercial customers.

Your Day to Day as a High-Temperature Materials Test Lead- Develop material characterization methodologies and testing capabilities to support material development programs; this includes temperature dependent diffusivity, heat capacity, coefficient of thermal expansion, and mechanical strength testing.
- Perform characterization on samples submitted from a variety of different research and development or prototype production programs.
- Interface with materials and chemical engineers to identify what techniques can help provide the critical objective criteria needed for R&D activities.
- Support and mentor the broader team with materials characterization of ceramics, metals, and composite materials.
- Support the operations manager in the build-out, commissioning, and safety documentation for the testing facility.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a technical field is required (e.g., Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, etc.).
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience is required. Applicants with an engineering or physics degree require a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
- MS or PhD in materials science, chemistry, or a related field is highly desired.
- Strong understanding in the characterization of inorganic materials (nuclear materials, metals, ceramics, composites, etc.).
- Experience in performing characterization under ASTM standards.
- Experience in performing characterization under an ISO or NQA-1 quality program.
- Experience or foundational understanding of some subset of the following techniques: thermal diffusivity, dilatometry, calorimetry, and mechanical testing at elevated temperatures in excess of 1200 °C (2240 °F).

Pay: $99,000.00- $
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,000.00 and $ per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
